How to choose between a desktop PC and a laptop

Depending on your needs and key features, you can choose between a desktop PC or a laptop: find out which features to evaluate.

That the PC is now a faithful daily companion for many of us, is certainly no secret. Thanks to a personal computer, whether it’s a desktop PC or a laptop, you can surf the web and face the world without moving from the screen, as well as study, work and even devote himself to intense – and fun! – gaming sessions. Not to mention entertainment in general, including movies, TV series and music.

That’s why many may be tempted to buy such a complete device with virtually endless possibilities, or be willing to replace their current one with a more powerful one. But when it comes to buying a new computer, is it better to opt for a fixed or a laptop? What are the advantages of both solutions?

PC laptop: why should you choose it

Of course, the answer to the question “Is it better to have a desktop PC or a laptop?” can vary, and by a lot, depending on our needs and the continuous evolution of the market – which every year updates the best models of desktop and laptop PCs. And it only gets clearer after taking certain aspects into consideration. Tendentially, the basic feature of a laptop is that it can be carried anywhere with ease. This makes available much of the performance of a normal PC even on the move, an ideal situation for those who study or work with a more dynamic approach. Not surprisingly, more and more models on the market are becoming lighter and more ergonomic, with a total weight that often does not exceed two kilograms to avoid tiring users.

In the name of absolute mobility, a portable PC is therefore smaller and generally more aesthetically pleasing than a desktop computer, and takes up less space in the home. Not only that, a laptop can easily be connected to our television, perhaps to enjoy a good movie streamed on one of the many subscription services available. Yet, in the face of so many advantages, a notebook also has several limitations. Being a single block, upgrading a laptop to improve its performance is never an easy task – except for specific models – and it’s an operation confined only to RAM, hard drive and optical drive, if any. This could discourage those who are looking for a highly customizable machine, and that does not become technologically obsolete in a short time.

PC fixed: why it’s worth choosing it

If the characteristics of a fixed PC are different from those of a laptop, the most obvious can only be associated with its own “physicality”. Being a desktop, it can’t be moved, and it’s bigger and bulkier than its notebook counterpart. However, it must be kept in mind that, from the point of view of cost, a desktop PC has technical characteristics decidedly superior to those of a laptop at the same price, with more powerful hardware and, above all, completely upgradeable by users. So as to make the computer less obsolete with the passage of time.

The ability to upgrade the hardware makes fixed computers particularly versatile and suitable for any use, including gaming. Not only that, opting for a fixed computer to be assembled leaves a lot of freedom and allows you to get the best possible components at a more affordable price. An option, this last one, that puts to silence all the legitimate doubts between fixed PC or laptop, but that gameforce requires a minimum of computer skills on the part of the buyer.
