In this article we’ll see how Spotify works in offline mode using Windows, Mac and Android devices. Here are the procedures.
Listening to music on Spotify is an absolutely addictive experience, thanks to the fact that, especially in the Premium version, you can find the most diverse tracks, listen to long playlists without ads and immerse yourself in listening completely. But one of the most interesting things is that you can listen to Spotify offline, therefore even when you don’t have an Internet connection available. Let’s see how. The procedures will be quite similar whether you use Windows, macOS or Android.
Listening to Spotify offline on Windows or Mac
So how to listen to Spotify offline on Windows or Mac, if you have a computer with you but no Internet connection? Easy, you’ll just have to download the tracks you want to listen to, but also entire playlists or albums. In the first instance, connect to the service’s page and download the app. Once the download is complete, the installation will start automatically. With Windows 10, Spotify can be downloaded directly from the Microsoft Store. At this point you will have to open the app and click on the “Sign in” button on the home screen. You’ll have to sign in using your email address and password, or through Facebook, by clicking on the appropriate icon.
Once inside, it’s advisable to create your own playlist in which you’ll accumulate all the tracks you want to download, so you can do everything with a single click. To make it, you’ll have to click on the “+” button located where the “New Playlist” item is and give a name to this sort of folder, using the name box that will appear in the new panel. Then just click on “Create”. Once the operation is finished, it will be time to add your favorite songs to the collection. You can decide to make a playlist dedicated to a particular genre, or a mixed collection that spans several genres, so you won’t get bored.
Whichever one you choose, to take advantage of Spotify Premium offline you just need to do a few more steps. On the top bar you have to go and look for the song you want to add, then click on the (…) button that appears next to the result and select the items Add to playlist > (playlist name). Obviously you will have to repeat the operation for all the tracks. If you don’t know all the titles of the songs, you can do a search by artist, instead of doing a search by tracks, or you can fish the songs from already existing playlists.
At this point the game is done: just select the playlist you created, then move the “Download” switch to on. This will start downloading the songs. When it’s done, Spotify will show the word Download done: you can now listen to Spotify offline. Alternatively you can also download existing playlists or entire albums of your favorite artists.
Another important feature of this program, used from the computer, is that it offers the possibility of also importing music that is already present on your computer, including it in the downloaded playlists. To achieve this you’ll have to go to the Spotify “Edit” menu and select “Preferences”. From here you’ll search for the “Local files” section and choose whether you want Spotify to display the music saved on your PC, moving the corresponding toggles to “on”.
Once this is done, if you use Spotify’s offline mode you’ll always be able to listen to your favorite music. You’ll be able to choose to use offline mode even if you have a connection, so you won’t consume gigabytes. To do so, you’ll have to click on the (…) button in the upper right corner of the screen, then select “File” and “Offline mode”.
Listening to Spotify offline on Android
But how does Spotify offline work on cell phones or iPads? Even on mobile devices, you can listen to Spotify offline without a connection. Exactly like with the PC, you’ll have to access the Spotify app, obviously after downloading and installing it. If you are not already logged in, you’ll have to do this step as well, otherwise you’ll just have to search for the first song you want to save, then create the playlist in which you want to save it and store it. Then you’ll have to add all the songs in the same space.
To download, once you’ve finished the procedure, it is advisable to access a Wi-Fi, to save your data connection. Otherwise, you’ll have to activate the option manually by clicking on the “My Library” icon and then clicking on the “Options” button and moving the “Download data” lever in the “Music quality” box to “on”. At this point you just have to move the lever to “on” in correspondence of the “Download” item next to the selected playlist. You can now listen to Spotify offline from your mobile device.
