Telegram is the well-known instant messaging application among the most advanced around, very easy to use and free, used by millions of users around the world. Telegram is one of the most popular apps for sending messages, photos, videos and files of all kinds, being able to create groups of up to 200,000 members or channels to broadcast messages to a wide audience. With Telegram it is also possible to create secret chats where the contents sent can self-destruct. Like most messaging apps, you can also see if a message has been forwarded or read by the other party. The ticks on Telegram are slightly different from those on WhatsApp, for example. Here’s everything you need to know about their meaning and various colors.
What is the meaning of ticks on Telegram
On Telegram, as soon as you proceed with sending your message, you’ll see a clock icon that will change to a single green tick to highlight that your message has been successfully sent to the server. When the message is successful, you’ll see the two green check marks close together, signaling that the person to whom you’ve sent the message has opened the chat conversation and viewed your message, receiving the relevant notification, assuming they have notifications turned on. In any case, even if he will not hear the notification in real time, he will still see the number of messages you sent him when he logs into the Telegram app. Unlike WhatsApp, the double gray tick is not there, so as to avoid the waits related to reading the sent message.
As for group chats, when sending a message, the two ticks on Telegram mean that at least one of the chat members has read the communication. Currently, however, it is not possible to know which user it is or whether all group members have viewed the message. Another difference from WhatsApp is that Telegram does not have one or more ticks indicating the delivery of the message. This is because Telegram offers the possibility of using your account on multiple devices simultaneously and in real time. Reason why we would be faced with a computer question of impossible answer: which of the devices used by a user, Telegram should tick first? This is the reason why the Telegram service does not have the ability to ascertain whether your message has reached its destination on a specific device.
How to hide ticks on Telegram
Let’s start right away by saying that it is not possible to disable read ticks on Telegram directly, since the messaging system is connected to a cloud with uninterrupted and immediate synchronization, features that distinguish it from WhatsApp. As you may have guessed, reading Telegram messages occurs when you are online, as with Facebook Messenger or Instagram Direct. However, there are small tricks that you can adopt.
You can set your phone to be able to preview the message, even when the phone is locked. You will be able to see a part of the message, being careful not to tap on the notification with your finger, otherwise double ticks will appear on Telegram. Another method to avoid the double tick is to go outside the chat, swype to the right and then the message will appear as unread for both you and the sender. This mode is possible for iOS devices, if you have an Android, you have to exit the chat, keep your finger pressed on the conversation and so an interactive screen will appear where you can select among the various options, the one to make it appear unread.
There are also other ways to not appear online while you are busy in conversations with other users or you enter the chat only to read urgent messages, but you do not have time to engage in new conversations. There are apps that allow you to read messages without making the sender double-check Telegram. You can try Telegram X, an app also made by Telegram LLC, which has the advantage of providing some features in addition, such as showing the preview of chats without entering them.
Another app that suits you and allows reading messages without the sender being notified is Unseen for Android with the configuration chosen on Telegram. Once installed, for each message on Telegram, there will be two notifications: one from Telegram and the other from Unseen. You’ll have to select the Unseen notification when you prefer to read messages without the two receipt ticks. Speaking of built-in technology, another way to receive messages anonymously is via smartwatch with the Wear OS app on Android (or using the appropriate one on your smartwatch) or with the Watch app on iOS.
