The day of Windows 11 has arrived: today ends the era of Windows 10 and begins that of the new operating system from Microsoft. Here’s how to install it on compatible PCs
From today, October 5, 2021, Microsoft’s new PC operating system is officially available: Windows 11 has finally arrived, although not everyone will be able to install it immediately. And, to tell the truth, not everyone wants to do it because Microsoft has provided very stringent limits for those who, after updating their computer to Windows 11, want to go back.
It should also be said, then, that many computers will not be able to install Windows 11 because they are not compatible with the new Microsoft operating system, which as is now well known has much more stringent system requirements than Windows 10. Especially with regard to the famous “TPM 2.0”, missing on PCs not very recent (but not even that old, to tell the truth). For Windows 11, therefore, is expected to be a “soft debut” and no one expects a rapid penetration of the new OS in the fleet of machines already active worldwide. What is certain, however, is that (gradually) all new PCs sold from today will have Windows 11 preinstalled at the factory. On others, however, Windows 11 will arrive as an upgrade.
How to upgrade your PC to Windows 11
Those who have a PC today with an original copy of Windows 10, starting with the 2004 version (i.e., the first major six-month update in 2020), can upgrade the operating system to Windows 11 completely free of charge as long as the PC meets all other Windows 11 minimum requirements.
The upgrade can’t be forced: you have to wait for Microsoft to release it for every single PC and, unfortunately, it could take weeks or even months. Microsoft, in fact, wants to avoid repeating the problems already seen with some recent Windows 10 updates, when millions of computers around the world started having problems after the update.
Windows 11, therefore, will be distributed as a normal update on Windows Update and, when it becomes available, the Windows 10 utility will notify the user inviting him to download and install his copy of the new Microsoft operating system.
Clearly it will be more than just an update, so it will take quite a while to both download and install it, so we recommend performing this procedure when we are sure that the computer won’t be needed for several hours for work. You can never be too careful.
Windows 11: install or wait?
Who will receive Windows 11 first will be faced with a choice: install it right away or wait to see if the new operating system has any bugs and causes any problems to PCs?
The question is not stupid at all because, unfortunately, Microsoft has set a maximum time of 10 days to evaluate the goodness of Windows 11. After this very short period, therefore, we will not be able to go back to Windows 10.
