C64 mini, the Commodore is back on track with 64 titles from the past

In the year of the blowback for vintage consoles the British company Retro Games is trying to revive even the Commodore 64, in a mini version

The world of video games is experiencing a real blowback for titles and consoles from many years ago. The love of vintage has led to the re-release of platforms such as the NES Classic Mini and SNES Classic Mini. And now the Commodore 64 is set to return as well.

The Commodore 64 revival will be made by British company Retro Games LTD. This is not the first attempt for Retro Games. Last year the company tried to make a Commodore 64 without having too much success. This year, taking advantage of the wave of mini consoles, it is trying again by making the C64 mini. The reduced version of the famous Commodore 64. It should be noted that this is not an official licensing operation. This means that the exact logos are not present. They are official instead the licenses for the 64 videogames preinstalled and present inside the C64 Mini.

Specifications and price

In Europe the launch price of the console is 79,99 euros. Among the most popular games present are: Cybernoid I and II, Impossible Mission I and II, Hysteria, Netherworld and Pitstop II. The device has two USB ports. One port is used to insert the joystick that came with the Commodore 64. While the other port is useful to insert another controller or an optional keyboard. With the keyboard the more experienced can also try to develop their own homemade software. For the connection with the TV we find instead an HDMI port. The C64 Mini does not have a built-in battery and is powered thanks to a microUSB port inserted in the back of the device. Shipments are expected to begin in January 2018.
