Elbow, the super portable cassette player of the future

In the year of revivals we couldn’t miss the 2.0 version of the walkman, let’s see how this smart device for reading cassette tapes works

To confirm that 2017 is indeed the year of revivals get ready for the return in style of cassette tapes. In the era of Bluetooth speakers, music apps and super quality audio it seemed there was no place for this technology anymore and instead now Elbow is ready to turn this concept upside down.

Elbow is nothing but a smart cassette player, made already last year by the company BrainMonk. After a year of work on the prototype BrainMonk is working to launch the final product on the market. For this, the company has recently released a PDF document where it explains in full the functionality and some features of the device. Elbow will allow you to protect the tapes, to increase the audio quality of the same stabilizing the playback and above all will make them portable. In fact, it will be enough to apply it, insert the headphones and you’re ready to listen to the cassette in your pocket.

How does Elbow work

You’re wondering how it works? Simple, thanks to an arm and an optical sensor, Elbow manages the playback of the cassette and improves the audio quality because it maintains a constant speed. With the other arm, instead, it rewinds the tape to listen to the second part of the cassette. The main doubts about the device are related to the battery. Elbow must be able to guarantee a good autonomy to be useful and to be used outside the home, but its small size at the moment does not bode well. After the return of the Tamagotchi, of the Nokia 3310 and of the Pong game we will see if there will be glory also for the revival of the cassettes.
