Asus will unveil the new Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 5 Lite at Mobile World Congress 2018. But they might not be the only new features. Here’s what we have to expect
Just five months after the launch in Europe of the Asus Zenfone 4, the Taiwanese company is already ready to present a new generation of its smartphones: the Zenfone 5. In fact, it’s a comeback: the Zenfone 5 series was already launched in 2014 and that’s why Asus has used the hashtag #backto5 to promote the presentation event.
The new series will be presented in an event organized during the Mobile World Congress 2018: Asus has given an appointment for February 27. To be presented, however, will not be only the Zenfone 5, but also the Zenfone 5 Lite, the entry-level version that will go alongside the “smartphone” flagship of the Taiwanese company. As happened last year, the Zenfone 5 will be a mid-range smartphone and will feature a dual rear camera, a screen with an aspect ratio of 18:9 and a notch at the top of the display (the small indentation also present on the iPhone X). For the top-of-the-line model, however, we’ll have to wait until June.
Asus Zenfone 5 features
To follow the new fashion that calls for screens with an aspect ratio of 18:9 and very thin bezels, Asus has decided to get ahead of the times and present a new series just five months after the previous one. The Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 5 Lite will definitely make their debut at MWC 2018. But let’s go in order and start with the features of the Zenfone 5. The smartphone is expected to mount a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 series chipset, supported by 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The real novelty compared to the previous model is in the front, where it will find place a 5.7-inch screen with an aspect ratio of 18:9 (FullHD+ resolution) and a small indentation at the top (the same present on the iPhone X). A change in design that will serve Asus to integrate sensors for face recognition and the front camera. At the back there will be the dual camera positioned vertically with two 12-megapixel sensors and the biometric sensor for the fingerprint.
Features Asus Zenfone 5 Lite
Reading the data sheet of the Asus Zenfone 5 Lite you might think that the smartphone is a simple entry-level. But actually, this is not the case: the device is dedicated to all those who love to take pictures. The smartphone is expected to have as many as four cameras: two rear sensors and two front sensors. The lenses of the rear camera will be 16 megapixels, while those of the front camera will be 20 megapixels. On board the smartphone we should find the Snapdragon 430 chipset with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The screen should still be 5.7 inches with an aspect ratio of 18:9, but unlike the Zenfone 5, the Lite version will not have a notch.
When the Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 5 Lite will be released
As mentioned, the smartphones will be presented on February 27 in Barcelona during an event at Mobile World Congress 2018. For the release on the market we will have to wait at most for the end of March, but it is very likely that they will be available since the first week of the month.
And the top of the range?
According to some rumors coming from the Far East, the Taiwanese company would be working on two other devices: the Zenfone 5z and a new smartphone dedicated to gamers and that will be released under the ROG (Republic of Gamers) brand. Both phones should be top of the line, with the Snapdragon 845 chipset on board and enough RAM to use all applications at their best. The Zenfone 5z could be unveiled in June during Computex 2018, an event held every year in early June.
