Of economic recognition, since the invention was never patented, Alex Pajitnov had very few, but his creature is still one of the most beloved games of all time. We are talking about Tetris, the game of colored falling bricks that today is 33 years old.
It was June 6, 1984, in fact, when the Russian programmer, at the time an official of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in Moscow, an organization that includes all scientific institutes of the former Soviet Union, created Tetris from nothing. A very simple logic video game that became famous in a very short time. As is known, the aim of the game is to move the various blocks, which fall from top to bottom faster and faster, to compose horizontal lines. Alex Pajitnov was inspired by the pentamino, a geometric figure made up of 5 completely equal squares, from which the programmer then generated the tetramino (colored bricks).
Tetris: famous thanks to the Game Boy
Precisely because the patent for Tetris was never registered, over the years different versions of the game have been created, arriving on any device and operating system. Part of the popularity of Alex Pajitnov’s game is due, in fact, to the Game Boy, the first and famous Nintendo portable console. There are several pieces of music that have served as a backdrop to the game in these 33 years of life, most of which are of Russian inspiration. Among the most famous there are, in fact, Kalinka and Korobeiniki, and especially the Dance of the Sugar Fairy by Russian composer Tchaikovsky.
Tetris today is certainly not as popular as it was a few years ago, also because of the many video games offered by the various platforms with more attractive graphics. But in spite of this, the game invented by Alex Pajitnov continues to exert a fascination that is destined to last forever.
