WhatsApp vs Messenger, which of the two apps to choose

Messenger and WhatsApp, both under the control of Facebook, have commonalities and several differences, but which one is better?

Facebook has two instant messaging apps, both of which are highly valued and widely used by users. We are talking about WhatsApp and Messenger. The two services have features in common and some differences. Let’s see, then, which of the two apps suits us best according to different needs.

Let’s start with the number of users. WhatsApp in this field has no rivals. The app has largely exceeded the billion active users already since last year. An impressive number. There are over 50 billion text messages sent with WhatsApp in a single day. Of course, many still direct criticism at the service. The question that experts ask is: how can a service with these numbers not have a source of income? On the other hand, Messenger is booming, with the number of users surpassing the billion mark and could potentially represent a safer source of income for Facebook.

The Advantages of WhatsApp

Let’s assume, however, that the future of the two applications doesn’t interest us at the moment and see what the pros and cons of the two apps are in terms of ease of use. The real advantage of WhatsApp over Messenger is the ease of finding a contact. On the messaging service, in fact, you don’t need to be friends with someone in order to contact them. This feature makes the application useful especially in work chats or groups where not necessarily all users know each other and share a friendship on Facebook. In addition, WhatsApp is linked to our phone number. Important aspect that over time has made SMS obsolete. In addition, since its inception WhatsApp has proven to be an easy-to-use app. WhatsApp is fast and above all it works well even with a poor Internet connection. You can make calls and video calls for free, without the need to isntallre another application.

Messenger Advantages

Facebook Messenger was created for a different purpose than WhtasApp. As the same Zuckerberg stated, WhatsApp’s task is to replace SMS while Messenger’s objective is to strengthen its social network, the one already created and developed over time with the social platform. For this if we are looking for a fun conversation, made of stickers, animated emoji and photos with filters Messenger is definitely our application. WhatsApp users care more about the hard stuff, and it’s not a coincidence that the criticism of the new retractable statuses is not so bad. While for Messenger users, fun is the basis of the conversation. In this sense, Messenger offers a whole series of very special functions.

Conclusions

In short, the two applications perform different tasks and for this reason it is not possible to indicate a winner and a loser. There are contexts where WhatsApp is definitely more useful than Messenger. And being a lightweight app, if we have an old smartphone with little storage space we can think of installing only WhatsApp and use Messenger from the computer. The advice, however, is to download both if we have enough space. So as to use one or the other according to the different contexts explained above. Finally, there is curiosity in understanding how Facebook will use the two services in the future to generate earnings. The idea of integrating payments directly from Messenger could be one of the big steps forward for the app. And certainly as services offered, in this sense, Messenger has a big advantage over WhatsApp.
