IPhone 12: top-of-the-line models will have to wait

Apple prepares to launch the new iPhone 12 series, but by October only two of the four models could be ready

Apple’s upcoming iPhone 12 series smartphones won’t hit the market all at once. Yet another hiccup in the production due to delays in the delivery of components, with Apple that could find itself launching next October only the 6.1-inch models, namely iPhone 12 Max and iPhone 12 Pro.

According to the latest rumors from DigiTimes, in October could therefore be launched only two of the four iPhone 12 planned for 2020. Specifically, the delay in the launch date would affect the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 and the 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max, i.e. Apple’s 2020 top of the line. This is because the components of the 6.1-inch models appear to have been shipped to production channels since July, while those of the 5.4-inch and 6.7-inch smartphones would only arrive in late August. There has long been talk of separate launches for the new iPhones and this would seem to be yet another confirmation.

iPhone 12, when will they come out

The release dates of the new iPhone 12 are still uncertain and for DigiTimes, starting from October 12 we will see on the market iPhone 12 Max and iPhone 12 Pro, while the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro Max devices will be available for pre-order, but will not arrive until November.

For other leakers such as Jon Prosser and also for Bloomberg, the launch will be staggered but the division more akin to the usual strategies of Apple would see first the launch of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Max, and then that of the models in Pro version. While waiting for the new smartphones, however, Apple would be ready to announce its iPads and a new model of Apple Watch.

iPhone 12, the delays in production

In support of the thesis of DigiTimes, which has not always proved to be 100% reliable, there would be the shipment of components to the production line. In fact, it seems that the components for the realization of the two 6.1-inch models have been received by the manufacturers already in July, while those for the 5.4 and 6.7-inch screens would reach the production line only at the end of August. Just these delays, also related to the Covid-19 pandemic, could change Apple’s strategy and rewrite the launch dates differentiating according to the size of the iPhone 12.

At the moment, the Cupertino company has only confirmed that the smartphones will arrive later than September, the month that for years has been intended for the launch of new iPhones. The release period then is set between October and November, but there are no official confirmations or denials from Apple on the hypothesis of a differentiated launch. We can only wait for the next statements of the company.
