Apple ready to enter self-driving car sector

In a letter sent to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the California-based company opens up about building the first Apple Car

The market for self-driving cars could soon make way for a new player. According to the latest news, even Apple would be ready to follow in the footsteps of Google and Tesla and enter this sector.

In a letter sent on November 22 to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Cupertino-based company confirms its interest in self-driving cars, despite the fact that in the past several times it seemed that Apple had few intentions to participate in the construction of these intelligent vehicles. As stated in the document signed by Steve Kenner: “Apple uses machine learning to make its products and services more intuitive and more personal. The company – the letter continues – is investing in the study of machine learning and is enthusiastic about the potential of automated systems in many fields, including transportation”.

Apple ready to relaunch the Titan project

Apple is therefore ready to get into the field, as shown again by a part of the letter sent to the NHTSA. The Californian company asks, in fact, that the new subjects be recognized the same possibilities that the agency grants to traditional car manufacturers to carry out road tests. This request hints at another thing: Apple will most likely not stop at producing only the software of the self-driving car, but will take care of the entire construction of the vehicle. This news is a bit surprising. A few months ago, in fact, according to newspapers around the world, Apple had decided to abandon Titan, the project with which the Cupertino company would have to make the first Apple Car.
