Speed cameras have also arrived in Italy. No, we haven’t suddenly gone crazy. We’re referring to the new feature introduced in recent hours on Google Maps, which allows users to view the location of fixed speed cameras and report, from within the satellite navigation system made in Google, the presence of mobile speed cameras on the roads of our country.
Introduced in the United States a few months ago, the reports of speed cameras arrive in Italy even if Google has not yet formalized the distribution in our country. From the rumors we read online, in fact, it seems that Big G technicians are updating the server-side infrastructure and it is not necessary to update the app (which, however, we recommend doing). It could be, therefore, that in this first phase the speed cameras will be visible only to a small group of users and only later will it be available to everyone.
How to see and report speed cameras on Google Maps
Once the rollout is complete, Android users will be able to see the speed cameras on their route without changing any settings. As it happens on Waze, another satellite navigator for smartphones owned by Google, the report will be automatic both when selecting the route and while we are moving with our vehicle.
And just making a comparison with Waze, from which Google will probably borrow much of the initial data, it is possible to speculate how to report speed cameras on Google Maps. Even if at the moment it is not confirmed, it is conceivable that the Google Maps database could be supplemented by the contribution of users. To report the mobile speed cameras while you are moving just click on the options button, choose the report and enter the location and direction of the speed camera. Google Maps will take care of the rest, inserting your contribution in its database and making it immediately visible to other drivers who are traveling the same road as you.
