But it’s also true that badly made widgets on Android are a dime a dozen, and even the official Google widgets, present in the “stock” versions of Android (i.e. the basic ones, without the customizations of the various smartphone manufacturers), have not always been excellent. The Conversations widget could be one of those appreciated by those who have an Android smartphone, but only if it will be developed in a solid and complete way.
What is the Conversations widget
As it is easy to guess from the name itself the Conversations widget aims to collect and show the user a list of conversations. It will be up to the user to choose which ones, to keep them always at hand on the device’s home screen without having to open every time the messaging app on which the chat is taking place.
In the same widget, in fact, it will be possible to insert conversations coming from different apps: from WhatsApp to Messenger, from Instagram Direct to Google Chat. The user, for each conversation, will be able to see recent messages, missed calls, statuses.
Will it be part of Android 12?
In Android 12 DP1 the new Conversations widget is present but barely sketched: it’s far from its final version and therefore it’s not possible to say with certainty how its final version will be. It’s not even possible, at the moment, to say if it will be present in the final Android 12: we’ll have a first answer in the next months, when Google will release Android 12 DP2 based on feedback from developers.
