To improve the sound quality of smartphones we have to buy a wireless speaker or change some settings of the device
Despite the great strides made in recent years, smartphones have, in most cases, one major weakness: a below-average audio quality. There are some tricks to improve the power and stability of the audio reproduction of our device.
In many cases the easiest method is to use headphones or connect a Bluetooth speaker to improve the audio of the smartphone. However, there are some contexts in which headphones are uncomfortable, think for example while cleaning around the house or in the shower. And not all users want to go the extra mile to also buy a wireless speaker for music or listening to YouTube videos or audiobooks. So here’s how to overcome a lack of power and quality in the audio playback of our cell phone without having to spend money on accessories or other tools.
Adjust settings manually
To improve the power of our audio we can manually change some settings of the smartphone. This operation can be done on both Android and iOS. After opening the settings we go to the Sound management center of the device and check that the volume is set to maximum power in case of video playback or in music streaming applications such as Spotify. If we have an Android phone in the Audio settings we look for the section called Equalizers or Sound Effects (depending on the model we have), and here we change the options that allow us to amplify the audio power set by default by the manufacturer.
Use a third-party app
If after “fiddling” around with the phone’s settings we haven’t managed to get the desired result, the solution is to download an app from the Play Store or App Store designed specifically to improve the sound of the smartphone. Most of these apps are free. Some do everything automatically (recommended for less experienced users) while others offer the user a complex interface through which to manage every audio function of their device. The advice is to avoid using apps that require root permissions or installation via jailbreak procedure. To find the best one, both for Android and iOS, we’ll just have to download two or three of them and then leave only the one that suits us best on the phone.
Caution to speakers
Sometimes the audio of our smartphone is a bit “poor” because of the covers or the position of the speakers. If we use a case that completely covers the device, it is possible that the audio comes out as muffled, especially when playing videos or music. In this case we’ll just have to remove the case to solve the problem. Be careful if the phone’s speakers are located at the back: in this case, to listen to a song, it would be better to place the smartphone on a surface with the screen facing downwards, in order to amplify the power of the speakers.
