On Google’s service you can see in timelapse the climate change and the intense growth of urbanization from 1984 until today
The effects of man on nature are under everyone’s eyes. Not all of us are interested in debates about climate or melting ice. And Trump himself on the campaign trail snubbed the topic on several occasions. Yet human effects on nature are clearly visible even on Google Earth.
The Aral Sea and other human effects on nature. The creation of irrigation canals, which began in the 1920s and intensified in the 1980s, caused the Aral Sea, on the border between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, to disappear over time. The slow decline of the lake is also witnessed by Google Earth. In the service you can see in timelapse all the photos related to the water basin in recent years. And it is possible to notice with the naked eye the progressive decrease in the size of the lake. The timelapse service of Google Earth covers the period from the years 1984 to 2016. And you can see similar effects to that of the Aral Sea on numerous other places on Earth.

Google had to sift through three quadrillion pixels from more than 5,000,000 satellite images to create a set of 33 images of the entire planet changing over time. Most of these scenarios are apocalyptic, with melting glaciers or disappearing waterways. For lovers of urban landscapes, however, there is also the possibility to see the exponential growth of cities in recent years. Like, for example, the development of Brazil’s capital, Brasilia, from 1984 to 2016. There are nearly 40 minutes of videos dedicated to such scenarios from Google Earth.
