Developed by a Chinese university, it protects the skin from the sun’s heat: In a scorching summer, the “air-conditioned” T-shirt is the solution.
Summertime seems increasingly muggy and debilitating. Humidity plays its part in making the sunny hours of the hot months unbearable-there’s a clear scientific reason why water-saturated air is more annoying than heat. Fortunately, technology is both the cause and the solution to our problems. The ambivalence of progress is indeed clear, if we consider that the greenhouse effect is a result of gases, such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen and methane, released into the atmosphere in processes related to industrial production, transport, livestock and agriculture.
At the same time, there are technologies that can absorb greenhouse gases. Ingenious inventions that may one day be so cost-effective that they can be deployed on a large scale. Of course, the minds of the brightest engineers are also busy on smaller technologies, which can help, simply to relieve the heat of the torrid hours. The anti-carbon dioxide mesh is an excellent example of this second category. Another example is, to remain in the field of fashion, the T-shirt that works like air conditioning.
How the T-shirt that works like air conditioning
The revolutionary patent comes from a Chinese university and has already passed several tests. It is a fabric named “metafabric”, produced through a combination of plastic, Teflon and titanium fibers, which possesses an absolutely special quality: that of reflecting heat and sunlight.
Experiments confirm the miraculous properties of “metafabric”. A Chinese volunteer sat for an hour under the beating sunlight wearing a dress made of half metafabric and half cotton. Well, the results of the test showed that, if part of the skin had reached 37 degrees Celsius, just in correspondence of the cotton, the skin protected by the fabric of new invention was maintained at a temperature, much lower, between 31 and 32 degrees Celsius.
When the revolutionary Chinese fabric will be available: it’s not far away
The same technology can be applied to the car, to keep the interior cool despite the environmental conditions. When will the metafabric be available? According to its creators, it won’t be long: about a year. To the point that various fashion brands have already shown interest in the patent.
