Facebook Messenger is increasingly similar to Instagram

Facebook developers add new features to Messenger, the social network’s messaging platform. Less and less differences with Instagram

New features for Facebook Messenger and less and less differences between this service and another platform of the group led by Mark Zuckerberg: Instagram. Not an absolute novelty, in the house of Facebook, where the various apps often fuck each other functionality and tools.

The messaging services of the Facebook Group, therefore, are increasingly similar to each other: in November on Messenger debuted the ability to delete sent messages, already present on WhatsApp. A few days ago on Instagram Direct arrived voice messages already present on Messenger and WhatsApp, now arrive on Messenger video Boomerang and selfie mode from Instagram. At this point there is no longer a real reason to prefer one messaging app to another, since all three have similar features: users will be able to choose and use the one they prefer without having to give up the features they care most about.

The new features that make Messenger look like Instagram

Now Messenger supports looping videos launched by Boomerang, an app that made its appearance on Instagram in 2015, and the so-called “selfie mode” for the camera that automatically adjusts exposure and angle to improve our appearance when we are framed, also blurring the background to make us stand out. In this way, the possible modes of use of the camera rise to 5: normal, video, text (with new fonts and colors available), boomerang and selfie.

Another new feature coming soon on Messenger is augmented reality with stickers that can be added to the camera shot as virtual objects to be inserted into the video. According to Facebook, 440 million stickers are exchanged every day in chats around the world. With the possibility of transforming stickers into virtual reality objects this number could increase even more. According to Facebook, stickers are also a great way to send a nice Christmas greeting when inserted into videos.

New Messenger

Facebook says the new Messenger features will become available to most users globally within a few days. In Italy, they have already arrived almost all on the smartphones of many users, both in the redesigned Messenger 4 app launched in late October and in the previous version that many users still use. With the new version of Messenger, finally, the app has become lighter, easier to use and consumes less battery power than the previous one getting very close to its two sisters WhatsApp and Instagram Direct.
