In a post on the official Android Twitter account, it apologizes to users for the inconvenience and proposes a temporary solution, waiting for developers to fix the annoying bug. This isn’t the first time Google has had to battle with an Android app crash in 2021: on March 23, millions of users around the world had reported app crashes for their smartphones. On that occasion, the blame was on the botched Android System WebView update, which was later fixed by Google with the release of several patches.

Android apps don’t work: what’s going on

In the last 24 hours more and more Android users all over the world are reporting the same kind of problem. The Google app keeps performing crashes, locking the smartphone and causing malfunctions. The phone is constantly restarting its apps, making it unusable.

In addition to the Google app crash, sudden crashes have also been reported for the Google Assistant, Lens, Search and Google Podcast apps. These are apps that are themselves integrated into the Google app.

The Mountain View giant after numerous reports is moving to identify the bug that causes its devices to malfunction and fix it. Meanwhile, the official Android Twitter page reads, “We are aware that the Google app on Android is not working as expected for some people. We are currently working to resolve the issue and apologize for any inconvenience.”

Android app: how to fix the problem

To provide a first solution, albeit only temporary, to the problem was the same Google, which in the tweet in which it admits the malfunctions also explains how to try to solve them. Users who are experiencing the problem will have to open the Settings page of their device and go to Manage apps, access the list of installed apps and then search for the Google app, scrolling through the list or using the search bar at the top.

Once the app is open, tao the Memory usage item, and then clear all data and cache data. By clearing the app’s memory and cache, the malfunction should resolve. Alternatively, you can try a soft reboot of Android, that is, a sort of light reset by forcing a reboot of the device. To do this, you need to hold the power button down for 30 seconds and wait for the phone to reboot.
