Netflix has made a clone of TikTok: how it works and what it’s for

It’s called Lightning Laughs and it’s used like the Chinese social, but the content is extracted from the platform’s programming: here’s what you can see on “Fast Laughs”.

It’s from Netflix the latest clone of one of the most beloved social networks by young people, TikTok. It’s called Fast Laughs, and has a style that replicates the operation of the Chinese social network: lots of short clips that follow each other before the eyes of users, this time not made by members but taken from content on the streaming video platform.

Netflix and TikTok are certainly not natural competitors, but according to the latest reports on the receipts it is clear that the Chinese social network is one of the biggest rivals of the platform. At the center of the competition there would not be, however, the videos themselves but something more important: the users’ time. In fact, the app dedicated to short clips would be able to catalyze the attention of users, stealing precious minutes and hours from the vision of productions, original and not, available for viewing on Netflix. This is the importance of Fast Laughs, which relies on the ability to keep users on the app thanks to a frantic pace of videos from the titles on the platform.

Fast Laughs, how it works

The mechanism of operation of Fast Laughs is very simple. Integrated into the main app, no additional download is required to take advantage of the feature. As you can see from the video presentation released by Netflix, when it becomes available to everyone, you can access it immediately from the main application.

You can simply tap on the dedicated item in the menu at the bottom of the screen. In just a few moments, many short excerpts from movies, TV series and shows hosted on the platform will appear in full screen. If the images should meet the user’s tastes, it will be possible to add the title to the list of contents to watch with a simple tap of the finger.

Fast Laughs, what is it for

Unlike what happens with TikTok, Fast Laughs does not aim directly at the entertainment of the members as it happens on traditional social networks. The purpose, in this case, is to keep them materially on the app, promoting the discovery of the productions available on the platform.

Entering Fast Laughs, users will be able to discover and view lots of extracts without performing any targeted search. They will simply need to launch the feature to explore the platform’s library, giving an extra chance to the titles from which the clips are taken. In this way, the platform aims to ward off fruitless search attempts by users who, when faced with potentially endless lists, close the application without starting the viewing.

Risate Lightning, when will it arrive

There is still no useful date for what will be the final integration of the feature within Netflix. In fact, in the post published on the official blog there are no – at least for now – references to the timing for the release.

The timing, however, may not be too long since the feature is already being tested in some countries, on the app dedicated to iOS devices. However, as we learn from the Netflix blog, Android users will also be able to get their version soon: in fact, the testing phase on devices equipped with the green robot operating system will start soon.
