The iPhone 9 should be presented for mid-March in an event organized ad hoc. The price should be around 400 euros
The launch of the new iPhone economic, that is the iPhone 9 is not far away: it would already be in production in Asia and the official presentation would be scheduled for mid-March. This is not official news, but very credible rumors.
To give the announcement of the presentation of the iPhone 9 in mid-March was Evan Blass on Twitter, a source usually very reliable, while the news of the production of this smartphone already started comes from Bloomberg, which adds that the companies that are already assembling the first specimens are Hon Hai Precision Industry, Pegatron Corp. and Wistron Corp., while the LCD display is produced by Japan Display Inc. There is also near certainty that the low-cost iPhone will integrate Apple’s A13 Bionic SoC, the same as the iPhone 11, because Apple has asked Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing to increase its production for this quarter. All clues, therefore, lead to the same conclusion: iPhone 9 is coming.
iPhone 9: what it will look like
Whether it’s called iPhone SE2 or iPhone 9, the substance doesn’t change much: it’s the first low-cost smartphone produced by Apple since back in 2016, when the first iPhone SE came out. Most likely the SoC A13 Bionic mounted on the iPhone 9 will have lower frequencies than the one that pushes the iPhone 11, but it will still be an excellent chip capable of giving this smartphone more than decent performance with the 3 GB of RAM integrated into the motherboard.
Confirmed the LCD screen, cheaper than OLED, most likely with a diagonal of 4.7 inches and a resolution of 1334×750 pixels. The camera will be a depowered version of that of the iPhone 11: still 12 MP, but without ultrawide and telephoto zoom. There won’t be Face ID but there will be Touch ID, integrated in the physical Home button (and so there will be a big bottom frame).
iPhone SE2: how much will it cost
The real doubt is how much will the iPhone 9/SE2 cost: nobody knows yet. The iPhone 8 is still on the market at a price of $449, while Apple in 2016 launched the first iPhone SE at a price of $399. The Android market offers dozens of models with features comparable to those speculated for the iPhone SE2, so if Apple wants to conquer (as it seems) India and other emerging markets with a “cheap” iPhone then it certainly can’t make it cost more than the first SE did. We’ll see.
