Instagram challenges Snapchat: 100 million users on Stories

Great success for the new feature of the social network that now approaches the numbers of the rival rose, in September, to 150 million daily users

It will not be Brazil-Argentina, or even Italy-Germany, but the challenge between Instagram and Snapchat becomes more interesting every day. The idea of “Stories”, although clearly inspired by the competition, likes Instagram users. According to BuzzFeed there are over 100 million who use the feature daily.

Who will win?  It’s still too early to tell if Instagram is ready to put the arrow on Snapchat, but the data speaks of unexpected growth for a recently launched feature. As we have seen “Stories” has an audience of 100 million daily users, while on Snapchat in September it touched the roof of 150. To read these data there are two schools of thought. There are those who believe in continuous evolution for Instagram because average users take a long enough time to adapt to new things. And then there are those who believe that, given the number of total Instagram users (500 million per month), the feature will stabilize at a slightly larger number.

The Future

It may not have yet reached Facebook Messenger’s extraordinary achievement of over a billion users per month, but Instagram’s near future looks to be as rosy as possible. However, this does not mean the end or the decline of Snapchat, on the contrary. According to BuzzFeed experts who have analyzed user data from the two social networks Snapchat has not suffered a flight of users, at least not in significant numbers, to Instagram’s new “Stories” service. Also because many of the Snapchat users have become accustomed to a different use of the pop-up photos than that proposed by Instagram, which addressed an already present target, namely that of its users. Despite this, it must be said that the strong similarities between the two functions are not lacking. A similarity that in the long run could also favor the development of both, since users are adapting quickly to the service and seems to like it a lot.
