Instagram will ask you for your ID card to use the social

Instagram has declared war on suspicious accounts and in order to become a safer social network, you’ll need your ID card to use it

The fight against fake accounts is also coming to Instagram and the social network is ready to take action by asking its users to provide their ID card. If your account will be flagged as suspicious, in order to access it and continue using it you will have to be identified through your documents.

This is the idea of the social network to make sure that the content displayed on Instagram comes from real people and not bots. If you will need to confirm your personal information and identity in order to use Instagram, it will increase the level of security of the entire community. The control of documents, however, will not affect all users who sign up, but only those accounts with suspicious behavior. The documents provided will be securely stored and deleted within 30 days after the completion of the review.

Instagram, how it works with IDs

The social network is ready to launch a real crusade against fake accounts and bots, especially after fake views have invaded Reels, the new feature designed by Instagram to challenge TikTok. To remedy the problem, Instagram has decided that all accounts that will be flagged or identified as suspicious will have to identify themselves through a valid document, such as an ID card.

Among the documents considered valid in addition to an ID card are a driver’s license, birth certificate, passport, marriage certificate, car insurance, voter registration cards, family status and social security number. Once the official document is provided, it will be stored within Instagram’s archives and then deleted within 30 days after the verification closes.  If an account decides not to provide the document, Instagram will be able to decide whether to severely limit the features it will have access to or disable it. If, on the other hand, the ID is provided and the identity is verified, the account will be restored with all its features.
