According to information collected by Bloomberg, Apple has shortened by one year the time originally planned for the arrival of the Apple Car
The rumors about the electric car of Apple, for the moment known as Apple Car, do not subside. In recent days came news of hiring a man from Tesla, Christopher “CJ” Moore, who in the company of Elon Musk has played a role “weight” in the implementation of software Autopilot.
Now to update on the latest is a reliable source such as Bloomberg, always well informed about what happens from the parts of Cupertino thanks to journalist Mark Gurman. He reports that Apple in recent times has explored two paths to have its say in the expanding field of electric cars: the first of a car with partially autonomous driving, that is able to have control over the direction and progress in a similar way as it already happens now, and the second – much more ambitious – a fully autonomous car, which does not require human intervention.
Apple Car, accelerating: goal 2025
Cupertino would have chosen the last option, that of realizing a totally autonomous electric car, and now they are traveling fast to reach the finalization of the project as soon as possible, aiming at the debut in 2025. The goal is certainly very ambitious: Tesla, which has a fair amount of experience with electric cars, has been promising since the beginning to create a fully autonomous car, but the realization of the promise still seems far away, despite the experience and years of work.
And yet in Cupertino they are accelerating on the Apple Car, with great confidence. At the beginning of the year, some engineers involved in the project had estimated five years to complete it, while now there is the conviction to make it in four to debut in 2025. The risk is to arrive at a time when you realize you can not complete the project on schedule and have to choose, whether to postpone the debut or put on the market a car with lower capacity until the technology is mature.
No steering wheel or pedals: Apple Car does everything by itself
The Apple Car self-driving would have the interior more like a living room than a “classic” car, those that we are accustomed to know. No steering wheel and no pedals, just seats or even benches, sofas, which allow passengers to socialize during transfers.
Looking at some projects, at the center of the cockpit of the Apple Car could also be a large touch screen similar to that of an iPad to manage the travel settings or to entertain with a game or a multimedia content, all, of course, with a strong integration with the ecosystem of Apple.
On the total absence of basic controls such as the steering wheel however, Apple could give in to a small compromise by including a crown that would allow one of the occupants to take control of the vehicle in an emergency situation. Someone reports that the chip that will govern Apple Car is almost completely completed, and it seems that it has been entrusted to the same men who make the Apple Silicon of iPhone, iPad and Mac.
