Sony follows in Nintendo’s footsteps and enters the mobile gaming market

The titles of the 10 games that the Rising Sun company intends to launch on smartphones and tablets have been announced. It starts in 2017 with Japan

It has been talked about for some time. Now comes some more details. There will be six games for mobile devices that Sony will launch in 2017. The Japanese giant is also working on four other games that will be presented in 2018.

The challenge between consoles therefore also lands on tablets and smartphones. According to the latest rumors, initially the games will be available only in Japan. Later, the Japanese company will aim to launch them in other Asian countries, while at the moment there is no news about the Western market. The 10 games that Sony intends to include in the Google and Apple stores are inspired by some of the most popular console games, including Arc The Lad Wild Arms and PaRappa the Rapper. Surprisingly, Ape EscapeĀ and ICO, which until a few weeks ago were given as “favorites”, disappear from the list.

War on Nintendo

Sony is therefore ready to declare war on Nintendo. An arduous task, considering the unexpected success that the other Japanese company has managed to achieve with Pokemon Go, Miitomo and from December 15 also with Super Mario Run. The project to enter the mobile gaming market began last April, when Sony Interactive Entertainment created ForwardWorks, a branch to which the Japanese company has entrusted the task of bringing some of the most popular console games on mobile devices. Sony had said it would open its doors to external companies and so, in fact, it has been. ForwardWorks will be joined by Square Enix, a company based in Tokyo and specialized in the production of role-playing games (Final Fantasy).

By entering the mobile gaming sector, Sony aims on the one hand to extend its market, reaching that large slice of gamers in Japan in recent years has grown at a dizzying pace, the other hopes to attract a part of this audience on PlayStation.
