Cursed, the new TV series about King Arthur from July 17 on Netflix

The Myth of King Arthur lands on the famous video streaming platform: in the cast the protagonist of Thirteen, and not only. Here’s what it’s about and how to watch the series

The legend of King Arthur has inspired a huge amount of movies, documentaries, music, books and materials of all kinds. Starting July 17 on Netflix we will be able to see a new content centered on the legendary British leader: it will be called Cursed and will see as the protagonist Nimue, played by actress Katherine Langford.

If the name does not say anything, just think that she became famous as Hanna Baker, the protagonist of the popular TV series Thirteen. Now we won’t see her in a teen drama series, but as a girl with extraordinary powers and destined to be the Lady of the Lake. We are therefore inside a fantasy content, which takes inspiration from ancient English myths. Along with her will fight numerous characters, played by more or less famous actors. The first season will consist of 10 episodes lasting about an hour each. The trailer of Cursed has already aroused the interest of fans of the genre.

Cursed: the plot

Cursed is an English word that in Italian translates as “maledetta” (cursed). But it is also the title of a famous novel written and illustrated by Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler. Frank Miller is one of the most talented authors in the world, for example he’s one of the creators of Sin City and has worked with both Marvel and DC.

Thanks to the plot and well-delineated characters, the book has been quite successful and this has led Netflix to turn it into a TV series. The novel was announced on March 28, 2018 and about a year later filming began.

Cursed is an adaptation of the Legend of King Arthur that is told through the point of view of Nimue, a girl destined to become the Lady of the Lake, a key figure in the legend. In fact, she is depicted as the one who delivers the sword of Excalibur to Arthur and then takes the dying King to Avalon, raises Lancelot, and seduces Merlin the Wizard. Among the Lady’s various historical names, Nimue’s also stands out.

The plot of Cursed begins with the story of Nimue as a child who is orphaned by her mother. Later, she forms an important relationship with young Arthur. Together they move to find Merlin and deliver him an ancient sword, endowed with incredible powers. The series then recounts the adventures of the two warriors, who will find themselves fighting against the Red Paladins led by the evil King Uther Pendragon, and other enemies.

The cast of Cursed – The Legend of King Arthur

Aside the star of Thirteen, Katherine Langford, the TV series boasts a talented cast. We will find Devon Terrell as Arthur and Gustaf Skarsgard will play Merlin. The actor came to success thanks to the role of Floki in the series Vikings.

There will then be Peter Mullan as Father Carden (we had already seen him in Ozrak) and Lily Newmark (Sex Education) who will instead play Pym. The role of the villain is instead entrusted to Sebastian Armesto, who in fact will play King Uther Pendragon. He has had some roles in famous films such as Pirates of the Caribbean – Beyond the Sea, Marie Antoniette by Sofia Coppola and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. In short, many faces we’ve seen before, this time committed to bringing to life a new adaptation of the King Arthur myth.

Where to see Cursed?
