Redmi has unveiled two new Smart TVs that, as per tradition, combine excellent technical specifications with a very competitive price
Redmi shows to be as volcanic as the company from which it derives, Xiaomi. The DNA is the same, and if Redmi were to follow Xiaomi’s philosophy in its entirety – which, for example, a few hours ago officially announced the production of an electric car – then we’d be in for a treat.
Redmi’s latest products arrive in the Smart TV segment, where supply is plentiful but demand evidently follows suit. The Redmi X Smart TV has been official for a few hours now, in two screen diagonals that differ little (55 and 65 inches) and that probably manage to fit average better in home environments, especially the “smaller” 55-inch one. Despite the price consistent with what has accustomed us Redmi over the years, so low, the new Redmi X do not give up some refinements, such as metal construction or the refresh rate of 120 Hz.
New Smart TV Redmi, the characteristics
The Smart TV Redmi X 65 and 55 inches have a screen in 4K Ultra HD resolution (3,840 x 2.160 pixels) with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, response time of 6.5 milliseconds, 94% coverage of the DCI P3 color space, and a delta E of about 2. They both support AMD FreeSync Premium and Dolby Vision.
There are 4 built-in speakers that provide 12.5 watts of sound power each, with support for Dolby Atmos further enhancing the listening quality. The Smart aptitudes of the two Redmi X TVs are ensured by the adoption of the MediaTek MTK 9650 chip, the same one used by the Xiaomi Mi TV Master Edition.
The chip from MediaTek is made using a 22-nanometer manufacturing process and adopts a 1.5 GHz quad core CPU composed of Cortex-A73 cores and a Mali-G52 2EE MC1 GPU. RAM on the 65- and 55-inch Redmi X Smart TVs is 3 GB while storage space totals 32 GB.
On the connectivity front, the 65- and 55-inch Redmi X integrate two HDMI 2.0 eARC inputs, one HDMI 2.1 that accepts 4K signals at 120 fps, an AV input, an ATV/DTMB input, two USB inputs, an S/PDIF audio input, an Ethernet input and four microphones that can pick up the user’s voice even at a decent distance from the screen.
New Redmi Smart TVs, availability and pricing
The 65- and 55-inch Redmi X Smart TVs are undoubtedly mid-to-high-end products. But like any self-respecting product from the Chinese company, the price is lower than that of much of the competition of the same level.
The Redmi X Smart TV in the 55-inch version was announced in China at a price of 2,999 yuan, which at the current exchange rate is equivalent to just over 400 euros, while the 65-inch variant is sold at 3,499 yuan, or the equivalent of 469 euros.
The phase of pre-orders has already started in the Asian country through many online platforms such as JD.com, Xiaomi Mall and Xiaomi Youpin, while the first shipments will leave for customers on October 31.
Nothing is known yet about the possible marketing in the West, but if they arrive you have to expect prices higher than the Chinese converted into euros because of taxes and higher logistics costs.
