Huawei Mate 20 Pro official: 3 rear cameras and lots of power

In the hours immediately following the launch of the iPhone Xs, Huawei had “joked” a bit on social with Apple. On the one hand, the Chinese company mocked the top of the range of the (according to her) most fearsome opponent, calling it not very innovative; on the other hand, it invited virtually everyone to attend the presentation Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro, which would take place there in a month.

And although it is still early to assess whether, indeed, the device is as innovative as the Huawei marketing says, we can certainly say that the Huawei Mate 20 Pro collects in a single product all the best mobile phone technology has to offer today. Three rear cameras with different focal lengths like the LG V40; fingerprint scanner “drowned” in the screen like the Vivo Nex; 3D facial unlock like iPhone Xs and Oppo Find X. In short, a concentration of high-end technical specifications that, on paper, should confirm the technological supremacy of the Chinese manufacturer. But will it really be so? As someone sang, we will only find out by living.

Features Huawei Mate 20 Pro

Made of metal covered with Gorilla Glass 5 (useful for wireless charging), under the 6.4-inch display with QHD+ resolution (3120 x 1440 pixels and 538ppi density) of the Mate 20 Pro we find the Kirin 980, the latest SoC designed and manufactured specifically by the same Huawei. A processor that combines computing power, balanced energy consumption and the ability to perform locally even very complex artificial intelligence algorithms thanks to an innovative dual neural engine. To support the SoC we find 6 gigabytes of RAM, 128 gigabytes of storage memory (expandable up to 512 with nanoSD card) and all the motion sensors and position detection of the case. Security is guaranteed by the fingerprint sensor integrated into the screen and 3D facial unlock, on the connectivity front, however, the Mate 20 offers LTE connection with gigabit speed (1.4 gigabit, to be picky), Wi-Fi 802.11 g/n/ac and Bluetooth 5.0. Powering it all is a 4,200 mAh battery that is more than enough to ensure a battery life of at least a day.

Photography compartment Huawei Mate 20 Pro

As happened last year, the strength of the Mate 20 Pro lies not so much in the brute computing power that hides in the body, but in its ability to “direct” it to make it the best cameraphone available on the market. At the back, as mentioned, there are three cameras with different focal lengths (and designed in collaboration with Leica) positioned at the corners of a perfect square (taking into account the dual tone flash, of course).

In the front notch, along with the 24-megapixel camera with f/2.4 aperture there is also a dot projector, a flood illuminator and an infrared camera, all components necessary for the proper functioning of the three-dimensional facial unlock sensor.
