One thinks, a hundred does. By now we have come to know Elon Musk, an entrepreneur capable of truly changing our era. Seven months after the presentation of the solar roof tiles, the entrepreneur of South African origin has announced that the solar roof can be purchased from today.
The confirmation comes directly from his Twitter account: in less than 140 characters Elon Musk announced that the solar roof can be bought from today in the United States. The rest of the world, including Italy, will have to wait a little longer: in the early months of 2018, the solar tiles will sail the Atlantic Ocean and will arrive in Italy. Tesla’s dad is investing billions of dollars in renewable energy, especially solar energy, and the purchase of the company SolarCity for two billion dollars is just the final step towards the realization of efficient and indestructible solar shingles.
What are solar shingles
Solar shingles are not new within the renewable energy sector, but Elon Musk is the first major entrepreneur to really believe in them and start mass production. The solar tiles have the same shape and size as those used for the roofs of houses, but have the particularity of integrating a photovoltaic panel inside. The tiles are made of a special glassy material that protects the photovoltaic panel from the weather and makes it (almost) indestructible.
Unlike of their kind
During the presentation of the solar tiles occurred in October last year, Elon Musk explained the process of production and operation of the solar roof. Each tile is produced through the process of hydrographic printing and each piece is different from each other. The solar panels inside the glass coating will “capture” the sun’s rays and produce electricity for the home system or to recharge the Powerwall, the batteries for the home also produced by Tesla and on which Elon Musk bets a lot to make eco-sustainable homes.
