IPhone 5G: price will be cheap

Apple will spend up to $100 more to produce iPhone 12s, but the cost to the public will remain the same as in 2019. Here’s how it’s going to be possible

No price increase in sight for iPhone 12s. Although next year’s Applephones are expected to have several more features than the models launched in September 2019. In particular, although they will all be equipped with 5G connectivity, they will be priced similar, if not exactly the same, to the iPhone 11.

The source that reveals the price of the iPhone 12 almost ten months from the likely launch is quite reliable: it is the “usual” Ming-Chi Kuo, a market analyst usually always well informed about what happens inside the secret rooms of Cupertino. The same Kuo, for example, revealed that 4 models of iPhone 12 will be launched on the market, preceded however by the launch of the iPhone SE2 (or iPhone 9), expected for the spring of 2020.

What the iPhone 12 will look like

According to the rumors that have come so far, Apple will launch four iPhone 12 models in 2020: one with a 5.4-inch OLED display; one with a 6.1-inch LCD IPS display; one with a 6.1-inch LED display; and one with a 6.7-inch OLED display. The one with an LCD display will likely be the successor to the iPhone XR (which became the iPhone 11), while the other three models will represent the top of the 2020 iPhone lineup. All four, however, will be equipped with 5G chips, while only the two with larger displays will be millimeter wave compatible (which ensures better signal coverage and faster connection speeds). Also these two models will be equipped with a new rear camera system, with triple sensor and new shooting modes.

Iphone 12 2020 Price

Despite the improvements, Kuo argues, the price of the iPhone 12 should not deviate too much from that of the iPhone 11. Indeed, Apple is expected to repeat the same list as in September 2019, with starting prices from around 800 euros. The higher production costs (according to Kuo, to produce an iPhone 12, Apple will spend between $30 and $100 more than what the iPhone 11 cost) would be spread along the production chain, thus allowing the Cupertino-based company to make its production processes more efficient and not dump the increases resulting from 5G on users’ pockets.
