Facebook, bug unblocks blocked contacts

Facebook has made it known that it had a bug between May 29 and June 5, 2018 that allowed blocked users to see our posts and photos

Another problem for Facebook. After the bug that, in recent weeks, had affected 14 million registered users, making public all the posts published, today  the famous social network warns of a new vulnerability that has affected more than 800 users between May 29 and June 5 2o18.

Specifically, for a malfunction already identified and corrected, more than 800 thousand users previously blocked have been unlocked without their contacts knowing anything about it. What does this mean? Simple: due to the bug, users you had blocked in the past were again “enabled” in your friends list, but without receiving any notification. For a week or so, then, these contacts would be able to read your messages, see the photos and videos posted even though you had blocked them. The bug, however, has not only affected the posts that had to remain hidden from blocked users, but in general has lowered the level of privacy of all users.

New Facebook bug: how to find out if you are affected

In short, if between May 28 and June 5 one of your “hated” contact could again read your posts, comment and share them is not your fault at all. On the contrary. The Faceboo bug, moreover, has also affected Messenger. This means that the people we had blocked on the service for instant messaging in those days could have contacted us without any problems.

Facebook has made it known that it has fixed the bug and that 83% of the people affected only had a blocked profile that managed to get around the privacy restrictions thanks to the bug. At the moment, the developers are sending a notification to the users affected by the bug to warn them and to explain them how to further improve their privacy by changing some settings.
