A little bit shaving salon a little bit store, with lots of technology including augmented reality: the first Amazon Salon was born in London.
Amazon is also launching into the hairdressing business. It has just been inaugurated in London the first shaving salon of the giant that will serve as a test bed for the latest technological innovations in the sector, such as consultation on cuts using the full potential of augmented reality.
The salon, housed in the London district of Spitalfields, will be managed by Elena Lavagni, already owner of the independent salon “Neville Hair & Beauty” in London and will be able to accommodate adults and children. This is a completely new experience for Amazon, which has already launched other types of stores around the world without ever touching the world of beauty. Certainly, however, there is no shortage of innovations in the technology sector to be used in the store. John Boumphrey, UK Country Manager of Amazon, then stressed the importance of the place as a meeting point with companies in the industry: “We want this unique place to bring us one step closer to customers and it will be a place where we can collaborate with the industry and test new technologies.”
Amazon Salon, so experiment with new technologies
The use of new technologies is the basis of the first Amazon Salon in the world. In fact, while comfortably seated in the chairs of the store, customers will be able to try out new colors for their hairstyles through augmented reality, as well as spend time using Fire tablets in addition to immortalizing new cuts in a creative area created inside the salon.
And then, thanks to point-and-learn technology, customers will be able to discover cutting-edge products by simply pointing at them with their finger and then reading all the information, as well as viewing videos and special content, on a special screen inside the salon. To order them, instead, it will be enough to scan the QR code that will refer to the dedicated page on the Amazon UK website, allowing in this way to complete the purchase and receive the product directly at home.
Amazon Salon, who can become a customer
At least in this initial phase, Amazon Salon will be open exclusively to Amazon employees. Subsequently, once the more experimental aspects of the project have been completed, the store will be able to welcome the general public to try out all the latest in beauty technology used in the salon.
As confirmed by the company, there are no plans to expand the initiative, which will therefore remain a single example within the city of London.
