GoFar is a device that can be connected to the car and through the smartphone app allows you to monitor the health of the vehicle
The new car models showcase the best that technology can offer: 4K screens where you can watch movies and TV series, a central hub with Android apps to listen to music on Spotify or use Google Maps for directions. Services that very often vehicles with a few years on their shoulders do not have.
If you are thinking of changing your car to use these new technologies, you should know that you can turn your car into a smart car by spending little more than 100 euros. There are many companies that have developed inexpensive systems to turn old cars into smart vehicles capable of providing information about the health of the engine and how much gasoline is being consumed. A U.S. company has developed GoFar, a device to be connected to the OBD-II port of the car, which collects data from the vehicle and allows you to analyze them through the application developed for smartphones (as you can see from the photo gallery above).
How GoFar works
(Taken from Kickstarter)
GoFar is composed of three different tools that work side by side to give the opportunity to the user to “communicate with your vehicle”. The first one is a smart device to be connected to the OBD-II port of the car (present in all vehicles produced in the last ten years and used for on-board diagnostics) that allows to collect data on your journey, the second one is a small device to be put on the dashboard that provides advice to the driver, the third one is the application that analyzes the data and through an algorithm offers the possibility to understand if you are consuming too much gasoline. The goal of the US startup is to make cars smart and save fuel during their journeys.
How to mount GoFar
Mounting GoFar on your vehicle is really very simple: just connect the device to the OBD-II port and immediately install the application on your smartphone. Thanks to the Bluetooth connection, GoFar automatically sends the data collected from the engine to the app and the user only has to analyze it. You’ll be able to find out if your driving style is too aggressive and if you’re consuming too much gasoline. Ray, on the other hand, is a device to be mounted on the dashboard and instantly provides information to the user. If the light of the device is blue it means that the driver is saving gasoline, but if it is red you need to change your driving style.
Price GoFar
GoFar can be purchased directly on the site of the startup and supports any type of car produced in the last ten years: gasoline, diesel or hybrid makes no difference. The price of GoFar is $119, just over 110 euros.
