A US journalist was able to hold a prototype of the Huawei P30 Pro, the Chinese manufacturer’s next top of the line. Here’s what it will look like
The Huawei P30 Pro smartphone, the new top of the range of the Chinese electronics giant, will be officially presented at a special event next March 26 in Paris. But yesterday something strange happened: during a Huawei event at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona a Digital Trends journalist was invited to a preview of this device.
Digital Trends, so, was able to see the new Huawei P30 Pro in preview and even photograph it. But with two major limitations: the device was a non-functioning prototype and we could not take pictures of the display, but only of the back. As a result, we now know what the back of this smartphone will look like, but not the front (will there be a notch? if so, what kind?). On the back of the phone there were two inscriptions: Vogue (Huawei’s internal name for the P30 Pro) and Link (which will likely be replaced by Leica in the final device).
What the Huawei P30 Pro looks like
The design of the P30 Pro seen by Digital Trends is very similar to that of the P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro: it has similar dimensions to the P20, with the Mate’s beveled edges. The weight also looked similar to that of the P20 Pro. The only buttons present were the power and volume buttons, a USB-C connector was present, and there was no headset connector. There are three rear cameras, and not 4 (or even 5) as it seemed from the last leaks leaked online. They’re all with apparently equally sized lenses and grouped together in a single vertical body slightly protruding from the body. Next to the cameras, as is now usual in Huawei smartphones, there was the description of the type of lens: Summitor. A fancy name, but very similar to the term Summitar used by Leica for its 50mm lenses. This reinforces the assumptions circulated so far, according to which the Huawei P30 Pro will have a 10x zoom.
Technical specifications Huawei P30 Pro
The technical specifications of the new flagship smartphone from Huawei still remain unknown. At the moment, there is talk of Kirin 980 processor, 8 GB of RAM, 128/256 GB of internal storage. The indiscretion regarding a 6.4-inch QuadHD+ screen with 19:9 aspect ratio (equivalent, therefore, to that of the P20 Pro) is compatible with the shape of the prototype seen by Digital Trends. Among the other rumors circulated, to remember then that according to which the Huawei P30 cell phone will be marketed in 4 variants: P30 Lite, P30, P30 Pro and P30 5G. This also opens the possibility that the one seen by the Digital Trends journalist is not a prototype of P30 Pro but, instead, of P30 or P30 Lite.
