More and more clues are pointing in the same direction: 2021 will be the year of the consecration of foldable smartphones and we will see at least one foldable model for all major manufacturers.
The 2021 could be the year of foldable smartphones. In fact, there are many models on the way from some of the major manufacturers around the world. From Samsung to Xiaomi, from Oppo to Vivo up to Google, the proposals that will land on the market seem to be ready to carve out a prominent place in the mobile phone industry.
Thanks to the implementation of new technologies, able not only to implement cutting-edge features but also to act on the prices making them more accessible even to those consumers less inclined to shell out big bucks for a form factor of this type, foldable smartphones could reach sales figures never seen before. According to research firm Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), the last quarter of 2021 could be the record-breaking quarter for foldables, with the number of units sold surpassing the numbers gathered from January 2020 through June 2021.

Foldable smartphones, Samsung’s plans
Leading the group of manufacturers ready to launch new foldable smartphone models is Samsung, according to DSCC. In fact, in addition to having ready models Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 5G plus a clamshell from the cheapest price, the company would be ready to provide the panels to devices made by Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and even Google, for a total of one million ultra-thin foldable displays only for production made in China.

Oppo, already a step ahead thanks to the prototype of the first roll-up smartphone, would be among the other companies ready to launch its first foldable, a clamshell with a 7.7″ internal screen that beats the size of Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. Not to be outdone Xiaomi that, always mounting Samsung panels, should replicate the book form factor of the Z Fold line of the South Korean company with an even larger internal OLED display, 8.03 inches.
In fact of form factor, to make the difference is however Vivo that, only a few months ago, has registered a patent for a device with a vertically extendable display. This is a very particular format, far from the proposals of other competitors in the sector, but no less interesting in a sector where the concept is constantly evolving.
Little or nothing is known, however, about the first foldable smartphone from Xiaomi. We do know, however, that it will be among those equipped with a screen produced by Samsung.

According to well-known leaker Jon Prosser, Google would also be ready to launch its first foldable Pixel. Needless to say, the thoughts of many immediately went to Fuchsia, the universal operating system that can adapt to any form factor, which could therefore prove to be the best test bed for the first foldable Mountain View.
