Xiaomi launches the PocoPhone brand, the low-cost smartphone

Xiaomi Pocophone F1 is the first smartphone of the Chinese company’s new brand: which will be launched on August 22 worldwide. Top of the range and mini price

Xiaomi launches a new brand and follows the strategy already used by other competitors such as Huawei: create a satellite company that produces low-cost smartphones and uses the same software architecture. For the new brand Xiaomi has chosen the name Pocophone, which in Italian could also give the idea of a smartphone that is worth little. But that’s actually not the case.

The new brand’s first smartphone will be launched at an event held in New Delhi on August 22. The goal of Xiaomi is to increase its market share in emerging countries (it is no coincidence that the phone is presented in India), but in the projects of the new Chinese company there is also Europe and Italy, where Xiaomi has recently opened the first two physical stores. The smartphone will be called Pocophone F1 and will have top-of-the-line features: on board we will find the Snapdragon 845 and 6GB of RAM. But compared to Xiaomi smartphones, the price will still be lower and it is a candidate to be one of the best phones of 2018 for value for money.

Why Xiaomi is launching the Pocophone brand

Xiaomi wants to differentiate its smartphone offer and as done by other companies as well, it decided to create a sub-brand that will produce low-cost smartphones. The new company will use Xiaomi’s technologies, but the materials and components used to make the smartphones will be qualitatively inferior to thoseĀ found on Xiaomi smartphones. Currently, the Chinese company is the third/fourth largest smartphone manufacturer in the world and with Pocophone wants to continue to climb the rankings by becoming the most important Chinese manufacturer in the world.

Features Pocophone F1

The Pocophone F1 will feature a respectable technical card. On board will be the Snapdragon 845 supported by 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage expandable via microSD. The screen will be 5.99 inches with FullHD+ resolution and will not miss the notch (the notch on top of the screen) now present on almost all devices. In the back there will be a dual camera with a 12-megapixel main sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary one. The front camera will be 20 megapixels. The battery will be 4000mAh and will have support for QuickCharge 3.0. The Pocophone F1 will mount the MIUI 9.0 user interface with Android 8.1.

Price and release date Pocophone F1

The smartphone will be presented on August 22 and it is likely that it will be available right away. For the Italian market no information is available yet, but it is likely to arrive in the coming months. The price is expected to be around 400 euros.
