OnePlus Nord 2: the cheap 5G with a powerful chip

OnePlus Nord 2 will be released soon: here are the first images released by rumors, from which emerges a similarity as curious as marked

A cheap OnePlus smartphone was long awaited, for years. In 2020 the company has satisfied that part of the fans who were clamoring for a product that does not exceed 500 euros or so, a figure that after all had been the one from which the first OnePlus, ie the start-up, never would have thought to approach.

So came OnePlus North, however, then followed by two other models offered at even lower figures. But the first OnePlus Nord turned out to be an Android smartphone with a balance between performance and price well in focus, and for this reason it has pleased both fans and many other people who had never previously considered buying a OnePlus, perhaps because of the prices that in recent years have moved further and further away from the initial habits. In short, it was a success that now the company will try to repeat with the product ready to pick up the legacy, OnePlus Nord 2, on which the rumors are becoming increasingly accurate and therefore “heavy”.

OnePlus Nord 2, have we not already seen

Today’s renders have been distributed by OnLeaks, a character well known in the environment because of the timely and often apt anticipations. The images of OnePlus Nord 2 that the leaker has made public domain through 91mobiles are quite explanatory on the design of the next mid-range Chinese, which, however, to those who follow closely the events of OnePlus we are sure can seem at first glance a carbon copy of another product of the company, OnePlus 9.

And in fact – if the final design of OnePlus Nord 2 should really be that of these images – the two products seem almost indistinguishable: identical the arrangement of the front surface, with the camera for selfie placed in the upper left inside a hole in the display, really very similar thickness of the bezels that surround the screen.

Not to mention the rear, the only surface that in recent years has ended up differentiating models that otherwise would end up being indistinguishable from each other. The same position of the camera group in the upper left corner, the same vertical arrangement with the only difference being the position of the LED flash, next to the two main sensors on the older brother while keeping company with the smaller camera here on OnePlus Nord 2, a solution that seems to give the product greater harmony.

The powerful chip of OnePlus Nord 2

Differences that on a technical level should instead be substantial, if only for the distance in price between the two that will certainly remain important. On OnePlus Nord 2 rumors suggest the use of the MediaTek Dimensity 1200, 3 GHz octa core chip that looking at the benchmarks would be between the Snapdragon 865 and Snapdragon 870.

It would be a significant step forward in terms of performance compared to the Snapdragon 765G that moves the first OnePlus Nord, although some, especially in Europe, continue to look at MediaTek with suspicion. The numbers say otherwise, and the OnePlus Nord 2 could be banking on a hardware package headed by the Chinese chip and enriched by 8 or 12 GB of RAM, a 32-megapixel selfie camera, and probably a rear camera group with a 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 sensor, an 8 MP ultra-wide and a third accessory 2-megapixel sensor.
