The visor made in partnership with Acer, will be released by the end of March. Compatible with Microsoft’s AR/VR platform, it will also run on the Xbox
Virtual reality or augmented reality? Microsoft has decided to bet on both. The American company at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco has announced a new device for mixed reality and designed for its Windows Holographics platform.
According to what the hi-tech giant said, the device will begin to arrive in the hands of gamers and app developers within a few days. The visor, in fact, was not made by Microsoft, but by Acer, one of the companies with which the company founded by Bill Gates has decided to collaborate. The announcement of the new device confirms that Microsoft intends to move beyond the Hololens. The American company from the stage of San Francisco has confirmed, in fact, the arrival of mixed reality on Xbox. And that’s not all. Microsoft is also working on Project Scorpio, a super console that will support, according to what we learn, both virtual and augmented reality.
Features
Now let’s take a look at the characteristics of the visor that Microsoft has created in partnership with Acer. Let’s start with the resolution of the two LCD panels which, according to what was shown at CES in Las Vegas a few months ago, should be 1440 x 1440 pixels and include a density of 706 PPI (an acronym for pixels per inch). The AR/VR viewer come with HDMI 2.0 and USB 3.0 cable, which will allow users to use the device on multiple devices. The uniqueness of these glasses for mixed reality lies in the tracking sensors both internal and external, including two cameras.
Microsoft is increasingly developing, as confirmed by the latest movements, its platform for virtual and augmented reality. According to reports, the American company will soon start making content for all devices compatible with Windows Holographics.
