PS5: Netflix, Spotify and Apple TV+ apps available now

Main streaming apps will be available for the PlayStation 5 as early as launch day, others will arrive soon

PlayStation 5 will arrive in stores with some apps dedicated to entertainment already available in the store. We’re talking about some of the most popular video and music streaming platforms, namely Netflix, Spotify and Apple TV+, to which others will be added in the near future, according to the words of Sony.

From November 12, and for European countries from November 19 when the PS5 is scheduled to be launched in Europe, gamers can already take full advantage of the potential of the new game console of the Japanese giant, without having to limit themselves to video games. Everything can be accessed from a dedicated space, designed to improve the user experience in terms of entertainment. But these aren’t the only surprises awaiting Sony fans, as the features of what seems to be the most mysterious platform in years continue to leak out, anticipated by many rumours and little information from official sources.

PS5: what apps are available on launch day

We’ve only mentioned three, namely Netflix, Spotify, Apple Tv+: huge platforms with libraries full of video content, such as movies, TV series and documentaries, music and podcasts. As was already the case with PS4, the PlayStation 5 will also allow you to listen to the platform’s dedicated music tracks during games, enriching the experience even more.

These apps, however, are not the only ones ready to make room in the PS5’s memory. They will be joined by Twitch, the Amazon-owned live streaming video platform that’s particularly popular with the gaming community, and YouTube, through which you can broadcast and share your best in-game moments through the built-in functionality.

Confirming the arrival of the new apps is Phil Rosenberg, PlayStation’s Head of Development and Global Partner Relations, on the official Sony PlayStation blog. According to him, Amazon Prime Video, MyCanal, Hulu, Peacock and many other apps will soon be added to the package.

PS5: entertainment experience improves with Media section

Rosenberg also went into more detail about the Media space, which is dedicated to video, music and entertainment category content: “Within the Media space, you no longer need to download entertainment apps via PS Store – it’s all in the Media space. The creation of dedicated gaming and media spaces for the PS5 user experience will make it quick and easy to switch between gaming and entertainment content whenever you want.”

PS5: entertainment managed via dedicated remote

Another not insignificant detail is that of the Media Remote, the remote control available from the launch of PS5 that will allow you to navigate the section conveniently and quickly. The device, in addition to navigation in the new user interface of PlayStation 5, will obviously allow you to manage the console and all content, through dedicated buttons for play/pause, rewind and TV volume, where there is compatibility with the TV itself.
