To use the new fast 5G network, it is not enough to buy a latest generation smartphone: you also need high-speed signal coverage
5G is rapidly gaining ground, thanks to the very high speeds of connection to the Internet, so much so that it leaves you speechless during the first uses. However, before taking home a smartphone able to support this protocol, it is important to check if the coverage arrives in your area.
Thanks to its peculiar speed, a characteristic of extreme importance, 5G is inexorably arriving on the whole Italian territory. It grows day by day the number of repeater antennas that allow the ultra fast navigation, very different from that of the past. At the same time, the number of smartphones equipped with this type of connection is also increasing, even in the lower price ranges, so that you can touch the new technology without having to spend a small fortune. Where the coverage is already available, the data transfer splashes towards peaks of all respect for an extremely fluid and performing connection.
5G coverage, how to check if it arrives in your area
In Italy, the operators that offer 5G technology are currently Tim and Vodafone. Both, have available on their website or app a system to verify the coverage, easy to use to stay up to date on news regarding the extension of the service in areas that are not yet reached.
5G coverage, how to verify Vodafone coverage
On Vodafone’s website, specifically within the GigaNetwork 5G section, there is a summary list of all the main municipalities reached by this technology. For an even more in-depth research on a specific area, an interactive map is also available, where you can search for the municipality of interest and accurately verify the presence of coverage.
The same type of map is also available on the app, for a more practical navigation from a mobile device. Once you have accessed the app, just tap on the Coverage Maps item in the menu. From the search bar positioned at the top of the interface, it is then possible to carry out a targeted search of the municipality.
5G coverage, how to verify Tim’s coverage
Unlike Vodafone, neither the website nor the official Tim app make available a map that can be consulted to carry out a detailed search. The only possible verification of coverage in your area is through a textual list, constantly updated, in which are reported the cities where the 5G service is present.
5G coverage, how to verify the coverage with third party sites
If you prefer to use a super partes service, in order to verify in parallel the presence of the antennas of both operators on the territory, the choice can fall on two websites: copertura5g.it and nPerf.
The first one, copertura5g.it, is based on the reports made by the users; therefore it could not be completely accurate but it offers anyway a good perspective of the areas already reached. The second, nPerf, shows the global map of 5G antennas, including Italy; kept constantly updated, the prospectus can be very useful to know in detail all the areas of interest.
The future of 5G in Italy, WindTre and Fastweb are next
Although at the moment the service is offered exclusively by Tim and Vodafone, soon – obviously according to the expansion times of these technologies – another operator could be added to this duet. It is in fact WindTre that, recently, has made a synergistic agreement with Fastweb for its own 5G network that by 2026 should cover 90% of the national territory.
