4-year-old boy saves mom by asking for help with Siri

The little boy first unlocked the device using his unconscious mother’s finger and then called for help through the virtual assistant

A bit like it was done a few years ago with television, today smartphones are being targeted. Especially when they are juxtaposed to younger age groups. Accusations that in most cases are well-founded, given the many cases of dependence ascertained.

But not always the combination smartphone-children is to be demonized, as demonstrated by a fact reported by the British public television BBC. Here’s the story: a 4-year-old boy living in London managed to save his mother’s life by using an iPhone. The little boy was able to call for help by activating Siri, the virtual assistant on Apple’s device. With clarity and seraphic calm, the child, helped also by the professionalism of the operator, provided his address and in a few minutes the paramedics arrived at home. The tender-hearted hero was not intimidated by the fact that the iPhone was locked by the fingerprint scanner and unlocked the device using his unconscious mother’s finger.

Teach children how to call for help

The little one, as you can hear from the call to 999, the British emergency number, thought his mother was actually dead. Roman, the little boy’s name, was at home with his mother and younger brother at the time of the incident. The story ended well, as the mother in the meantime, before the help arrived, had regained consciousness. Although then as a precaution she was still taken to the hospital for further investigation. As Ade Adelekan, the chief superintendent of the Met Police, says, “the call drives home the importance of teaching a child the home address and how to call the police or emergency services in an emergency situation.”

So smartphones are not always to be condemned, sometimes they can even save lives.
