My teacher passed slides and he mentioned two modifiers root and Active but I never heard of them and from what I researched they do not exist in java, can someone give a better explanation? Is there something similar in java that does this?

The ROOT and ACTIVE modifiers were probably taught in Object Oriented Programming, where your teacher might be using Java as a sample language. Although they are not Java class class attributes, learning their concepts are essential for understanding OOP as a whole.
