The several times this has happened to me have been due to updates of these apps not being done correctly. Usually the update does occur but the app icon disappears from the main screen. However, the icon can be found by going to the apps screen and dragging the icon to the desktop. You should also remember that you may have an Android option enabled so that the icon does not appear after an app installation.
