Services are those that listen on ports. There are server services that use specific ports. For example, database systems write to and listen on specific ports. You can write an application that listens and writes on a specific port that uses one of those used by another product. You can reuse a port from another application. However, you will have to change the default ports of the other application.

It depends a lot on the software with which the server is mounted, eg ### if it is microsoft environment and according to version 2012, 2016 or 2019 have by default most ports closed, however their services have them open (own ports), in the case of linux is something similar will also depend on the distros, most are closed, except those for own use, normally when one mounts a server and a particular application, you should check with a scan if the ports that one requires are open, otherwise the applications will not work in public format, since in local if it will work!

Welcome

Well done!

I don't understand what you mean. Server has two meanings the first refers to the hadwaew, the computer that puts resources across a network for all the computers, or dumb terminals, that connect to that network , and the second term refers to the software, the program that runs on that computer.

Neither one nor the other is attentive to a port but the nodes download their requests to an - input buffer, or memory space where the requests arriving from the different nodes, (PC's, or dumb terminals), of the network are queued.

From there, in order of arrival, the server takes them, does what is requested and if it comes to account, answers to the node that made the request the answer, generally if the system that is used is the client-server, the node or client with the answer received, gives formatro to those data and shows them by screen or in another peripheral, like impersora, plotter, ,,,,
