How has your experience with GraphQL been? Above all compared to the REST model

I'm doing a part of a project that has been considered the possibility of using Graphs for building APIs. Initially I found it interesting, but I had no experience with this technology and although I did some tests and studied superficially, I could not draw valid conclusions. I know this depends a lot on project to project, but in a generic way, how do you evaluate? The manager's opinion here mentions the fact that the traditional REST implementation is very costly (compared to the GraphQL proposal), costly in that it is necessary to dedicate more temple to implement, maintain and also with regard to the number of requisitions to the server. Any thoughts from you?
