The indy9 works in windows 8, the issue is not the S.O, but the technologies used in the use of protocol (s) (smtp and cia) and network (middle) that has been undergoing constant updates. For example, the Simple Authentication and Security Layer (SASL), which in indy10 has a very satisfactory implementation, also has the versions of TLS and SSL supported by TIdSSLIOHandlerSocketOpenssl. Summing up Indy9 certainly still works, however, it's probably best to upgrade to 10 or higher. To not have compatibility problems with some smtp servers when trying to send their emails.
