Today, Spain's largest telecommunications company has been crippled by ransomware that demands it pay nearly €300 for each infected PC on pain of losing all the data it contains. And it appears to have affected thousands of machines. This software, and other malware in general, is only developed for the most popular operating system, which is Windows.

Of course, the day another operating system becomes as popular as Windows, threats like this will start appearing for it. No matter how careful the developers are, there is no way to be sure that there are no hidden vulnerabilities.
