Linux is an open operating system. This means that the creators and maintainers have a genuine interest in ensuring that the system remains beneficial to its users. The biggest advantage is universal control over your software and your own devices. I highly recommend using a Linux distribution. My favourite is Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.
