Is FreeBSD faster than Linux with the same desktop environment? Should I consider switching to FreeBSD to improve performance?

FreeBSD itself is faster than linux and much more stable. Probably the average desktop environment is more efficient there. The problem is that most FreeBSD apps are actually developed for linux ### so any slight gains you might find in the performance department would be offset by running software through an abstraction layer.
