I join you in recommending Linux Mint. I can't recommend Elementary OS because I haven't used it. I can also recommend Fedora.

My favourite distro is Elementary OS. Its desktop is elegant, functional, clean ### it's a fully automated distro (you don't need any technical knowledge to use it) and you can use programs in all the usual Linux formats.
Highly recommended.
