Una opción interesante que probamos con mi hermano en nuestra casa es Linux Lite [1]. La probamos en una máquina de comienzos del 2000, con unas especificaciones de hardware muy básicas y funcionó muy bien. Recobramos ese notebook funcionalmente con esa versión de Linux.

Arch Linux, basically you choose what you want to install on it from scratch. It works perfectly on Raspberry Pi boards, and on older computers. The one my mother uses has been running perfectly for over 10 years and I've never had to do any maintenance on it.
